9/11 and American Empire, Vol. I - Intellectuals Speak Out
Author: David Ray Griffin

Practically from the moment the dust settled in New York and Washington after the attacks of September 11, a movement has grown of survivors, witnesses, and skeptics who have never quite been able to accept the official story. When theologian David Ray Griffin turned his attention to this topic in his book The New Pearl Harbor (2003), he helped give voice to a disquieting rumble of critiques and questions from many Americans and people around the world about the events of that day. Were the military and the FAA really that incompetent? Were our intelligence-gathering agencies really in the dark about such a possibility? In short, how could so much go wrong at once, in the world's strongest and most technologically sophisticated country? Both the government and the mainstream media have since tried to portray the 9/11 truth movement as led by people who can be dismissed as "conspiracy theorists" able to find an outlet for their ideas only on the internet. This volume, with essays by intellectuals from Europe and North America, shows this caricature to be untrue. Coming from different intellectual disciplines as well as from different parts of the world, these authors are united in the conviction that the official story about 9/11 is a huge deception manufactured to extend imperial control at home and abroad. 9/11 and American Empire, Vol. II - Christians, Jews, and Muslims Speak Out
Author: Edited by Kevin Barrett, John Cobb, and Sandra Lubarsky

Inspired by David Ray Griffin’s internationally acclaimed book The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11, this anthology presents a variety of perspectives on 9/11 and empire from authors who identify with one of the major Abrahamic traditions. Co-edited by a major Christian theologian (John Cobb), a Jewish scholar (Sandra Lubarsky), and a Muslim scholar (Kevin Barrett), the book features essays by 9/11 revisionists and activists alongside those of noted writers and scholars, including several of the leading religious intellectuals of our time. The writers offer reflections on 9/11 and empire informed by the moral principles of their religious traditions as well as by the obligation to engage in thoughtful dialogue with those of other traditions. While the question of of the Bush administration's and Us military and intelligence leaders' possible complicity in 9/11— and the moral implications of facing that possibility—is at the forefront of the book’s agenda, it also addresses the way 9/11 has been used to expand the US empire’s “global domination project”—raising profound moral questions that confront all of us, whatever our views on 9/11 complicity and whatever our faith, worldview, or national/ethnic identification. 9/11 Contradictions - An Open Letter to Congress and the Press

9/11 Contradictions - An Open Letter to Congress and the Press
Author: David Ray Griffin

Here, David Ray Griffin presents hard evidence (official documents) that the official story about 9/11 is riddled with internal contradictions. For example, the 9/11 Commission's claim that Vice President Cheney did not enter the Presidential Emergency Operations Center until almost 10AM was contradicted by Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta, who testified that when he arrived at 9:20AM, Cheney was already there; the White House's early claim that President Bush left the Florida classroom immediately after being informed by Andy Card about the second attack on the World Trade Center was later contradicted by a video of the session which showed that the president remained seated for about 10 minutes; Rudy Giuliani's recent claim that he did not know the Twin Towers were going to collapse contradicts a statement he made to ABC's Peter Jennings on 9/11; the claim that there is no doubt about Osama bin Laden's responsibility for the 9/11 attacks has also been contradicted by the FBI, which says it has no hard evidence of his responsibility; the claim that information connecting the attacks to al-Qaeda was found in Mohamed Atta's luggage contradicts the story told by the FBI immediately after the attacks; and the claim that the Pentagon had no way of knowing that an attack was coming has been contradicted by proof that an E-4B was flying over Washington at the time. Since two contradictory statements cannot both be true, it is clear that individuals and agencies articulating the official story of 9/11 have made many false statements. Congress and the press clearly should ask which of the contradictory statements are false and why they were made. This book simply lays out the fact that these contradictions exist; it contains no theory. Politicians and journalists who deal with the issues raised herein, therefore, will not be giving credence to some "conspiracy theory" about 9/11. They will simply be carrying out their duty to ask why the official story about 9/11 - arguably the most fateful event of our time - is riddled with so many contradictions. More...

America's "War on Terrorism" in the Wake of 9/11

America's "War on Terrorism" in the Wake of 9/11
Author: Michel Chossudovsky

In this updated and expanded edition, Prof. Michel Chossudovsky blows away the smokescreen, put up by the mainstream media, that 9/11 was an "intelligence failure," and an attack on America by "Islamic terrorrists." Through meticulous research, the author uncovers a military-intelligence ploy behind the September 11 attacks, and the cover-up and complicity of key members of the Bush Administration. This expanded edition, which includes 12 new chapters, focuses on the use of 9/11 as a pretext for the invasion and illegal occupation of Iraq, the militarization of justice and law enforcement and the repeal of democracy. According to Chossudovsky, the "War on Terror" is a complete fabrication based on the illusion that one man, Osama bin Laden, from a dim cave in Afghanistan, outwitted the $40 billion-a-year US intelligence apparatus. The "War on Terror is nothing but a war of conquest. Globalization is the final march towards a New World Order dominated by Wall Street, the US miulitary-industrial complex and the oil giants. 9/11 provides a justification for waging a war without borders. Washington's agenda consists in extending the frontiers of the American Empire to facilitate complete US corporate control, while installing within America the institutions of the Homeland Security State. Chossudovsky peels back layers of rhetoric to reveal a complex web of deceit aimed at luring the American people and the rest of the world into accepting continuous military solutions which threaten the future for all of mankind. America's Disappeared - Secret Imprisonment, Detainees, and the "War on Terror"
Author: Rachel Meerepol, Editor

On any given day, over 20,000 men, women, and children languish in indefinite detention in the United States. In Iraq, Afghanistan, and Guantanamo Bay, thousands more are imprisoned or shipped to other countries where the rules for interrogation permit greater amounts of coercion and violence. These are America's disappeared. America's Disappeared describes how the U.S. government, in response to the events of 9/11, launched an unprecedented campaign of racial profiling, detentions, and deportations so grievous as to evoke the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Thousands have been imprisoned without trial or any kind of judicial hearing. Thousands remain indefinitely detained without charge being brought against them. Some are tortured; others are shipped off to other countries to be tortured. This book brings together detainees’ own testimonies along with analysis by the leading constitutional attorneys and human rights advocates. In addition to a detailed exploration of detention—the forms currently in use, and the conditions of each—the book challenges the Bush administration’s justifications for violating the Geneva Conventions and the most basic definitions of human rights. This chilling book contains their voices, and the voices of those who fight for their rights as human beings. More...

America, Fascism, and God - Sermons from a Heretical Preacher

America, Fascism, and God - Sermons from a Heretical Preacher
Author: Davidson Loehr

"Fundamentalism is always a natural ally of greed, brutality, and war, as it has become in America," says Davidson Loehr, a liberal minister from Austin, Texas. "When you hear men like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell say that rich people shouldn’t be taxed, that there should be no welfare programs for the poor, and that we should hunt down terrorists and 'blow them away in the name of the Lord,' you are as far from honest religion as you can get." Loehr explores how religion and democracy have been desecrated by the unholy alliance of corporate money, political power, and religious fundamentalism. Historically, these three forces have come together in the form of religious fascism and brought death and destruction in their wake. Loehr asserts that we may be living under such a regime in the United States today. Religion and politics have always been a potent mix. History is littered with times when that combination caused sweeping death and destruction, when it fueled aggression and oppression - and when it gave fascism a religious and diplomatic face. On the Sunday following the election on November 2, 2004, Loehr, a liberal minister in Texas, delivered a sermon titled "Living Under Fascism" - a sermon that spread like wildfire through the Internet. "I mean to persuade you that the style of governing into which America has slid is most accurately described as fascism, and that the necessary implications of this fact are rightly regarded as terrifying," the preacher told his congregation. "...and even if I don’t persuade you, I hope to raise the level of your thinking about who and where we are now." Loehr’s book is a call - first to understand how religion has been hijacked and debased. And then to take it back. More...

American Empire and the Commonwealth of God, The - A Political, Economic, Religious Statement
Author: David Ray Griffin, John B. Cobb Jr., Richard A. Falk, Catherine Keller

Four distinguished scholars here level a powerful critique of the rapid expansion of the emerging American empire and its oppressive and destructive political, military, and economic policies. Arguing that a global Pax Americana is internationally disastrous, the authors demonstrate how America's imperialism inevitably leads to rampant irreversible ecological devastation, expanding military force for imperialistic purposes, and a grossly inequitable distribution of goods-all leading to the diminished well-being of human communities. These four voices - three Christians and one Jew - persuasively indict the American empire as being diametrically opposed to divine values and powerful enough to threaten the purposes of God. David Ray Griffin is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Theology at Claremont School of Theology, Professor of Religion Emeritus at Claremont Graduate University, and Codirector of the Center for Process Studies. He is the author of the popular bestsellers The New Pearl Harbor: Disturbing Questions about the Bush Administration and 9/11 and The 9/11 Commission Report: Omissions and Distortions. John B. Cobb Jr. has held many positions, including Ingraham Professor of Theology at the Claremont School of Theology; Avery Professor at the Claremont Graduate School; Fullbright Professor at the University of Mainz; and Visiting Professor at Vanderbilt, Harvard, and Chicago Divinity Schools. Richard A. Falk is Albert G. Milbank Professor of International Law and Practice, Emeritus, at Princeton University. Falk is an honorary member of the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law and a member of the editorial boards of The Nation and The Progressive. Catherine Keller is Professor of Constructive Theology in the Theological and Graduate Schools of Drew University. More...

American Fascists - The Christian Right and the War on America
Author: Chris Hedges

25 years ago, when Pat Robertson and other radio and televangelists first spoke of the United States becoming a Christian Nation that would build a global Christian Empire, it was hard to take such hyperbolic rhetoric seriously. Today, such language no longer sounds like hyperbole but poses, instead, a VERY real threat to our freedom and our way of life: Hedges, who grew up in rural parishes in upstate New York where his father was a Presbyterian pastor, attacks the movement as someone steeped in the Bible and Christian tradition. The movement's call to dismantle the wall between church and state and the intolerance it preaches against all who do not conform to its warped vision of a Christian America is, as Hedges argues, a movement that resembles the young fascist movements in Italy and Germany in the 1920s and '30s, movements that often masked the full extent of their drive for totalitarianism and were willing to make concessions until they achieved unrivaled power. The movement's yearning for apocalyptic violence and its assault on dispassionate, intellectual inquiry are laying the foundation for a new, frightening America. More...

American Jobs - How Our Jobs are Moving to Low-Wage Countries DVD
Author: Greg Spotts

This powerful documentary began as a personal exploration of the "jobless recovery" of 2004. Disturbed by the news that 3 million manufacturing jobs had disappeared between 2000 and 2003, Greg Spotts hit the road with a video camera to see the damage for himself. During the first 6 months of 2004, Spotts visited 19 American cities and towns during the production of this entirely self-funded film. There, he witnessed firsthand the permanent, structural changes confronting America's blue-collar and (!) white collar families as multinational corporations take advantage of "global outsourcing" to hire the lowest-wage labor. The chilling result of 80 hours of interviews, "American Jobs" explores the impact of low-wage foreign competition on America's workers, families and communities. From the textile mills of North Carolina to the software hubs of Seattle and Silicon Valley, displaced workers share their stories and their concern for America's future. Unsettling. This is the documentary to Greg Spott's CAFTA and Free Trade, the companion book to this critically acclaimed film (also available at Legendary Times Books). More...

Anatomy of Deceit - How the Bush Admin Used the Media to Sell the Iraq War and Out a Spy
Author: Marcy Wheeler

What happens when Washington, D.C. pundits and journalists run in the same social circles as the people they cover? When the President and his administration trade press access for loyalty? Easy! You get a complicit, uncritical press greasing the skids to a brutal war, conspiring to out a CIA agent, and muddying the waters of a grand jury investigation. In the fearful aftermath of 9/11, much of America’s pride - its free press - became an unquestioning and limp propaganda arm. Anatomy of Deceit documents how the media promoted the Bush Administration’s justification for war - that Iraq was on the verge of acquiring weapons of mass destruction - even though all of it was debunked. And it provides a play-by-play account of how Vice President Dick Cheney’s office first used the media to target a critic, former Ambassador Joe Wilson, and then to avoid criminal charges in the CIA leak case. While the media was beating the drums of war and cozying up to the administration, citizen journalists were digging for the truth. Wheeler's compelling account tells the story, as it needs to be told: from outside the Beltway's cocktail circuit! More...
